James Smith’s, The Wonderer of Time, is the story of a thirteen-year-old boy called Francis who has the ability to travel in time. Since birth Francis has been able to travel forward in time to any year and any place, growing up as a normal boy can be hard enough when you have a bully like Troy always giving you a hard time. Though Francis could never really pass for a normal boy with his special gift, he has only one person he trusts enough to know his secret, and that is his best friend Jody who lives next door--the one person he can share his time-traveling stories with, the one person who truly understands him.

One night, Francis travels to 2018, and meets two boys who he learns do some strange subjects at school subjects like Beans and Peas. Francis does not understand why these boys’ schools would be teaching them about tinned goods, but through continued trips to this time, he realizes the significance that these two topics have in the year 2018. As he travels between his own reality and the future he is faced with some hard truths that he does not want to face. Can he go back to his own time and change the fate of someone close to him before it is too late?

James Smith’s, The Wonderer of Time, is a strange story that, for me, never really took off or went anywhere. There didn’t seem to enough description to the parts of the story that were about the actual time travel and, except for being a children’s story. there was no real genre to this story or real character building descriptions, personalities or characters.

There was nothing to interest me in the characters or in the story. This story seemed to start with a flimsy beginning, no real middle and an non existent end. The story ended in what would be classed as the middle of the story and the reader is left wondering what was it really all about as there isn’t much too it. I cannot recommend this book as for me it was ’much ado about nothing’ and did not make much sense.
