Amusing Read …….. Recommended ….

The narrative begins up in the clouds and way past the trees. This is where Little Star finds Breeze. The two have a wonderful time playing before Little Star asks, "Do you know why… am I?" Breeze and Little Star have lunch and talk about the question. Breeze suggests that learning answers is like climbing a rope, you begin and work on it and then you know. Little Breeze still did not know why, so Breeze suggested they speak to Morning Dew. The pair found Morning Dew out in a meadow where she was happy with bees while she was busy painting the flowers. Morning Dew thought about Little Stars’ question. Morning Dew thought of an answer, but Little Star will have to wait until night. As dusk fell, Breeze’s friends all came too. There was Rain Drop, Mr. Puddle, and Suzie the bee. Mrs. Buttercup came with a new hat. The hat was so large it almost hid Larry the rat. Bringing a special book, tied with a red ribbon, Morning Dew arrived on the back of White Dove. And there on the page of Morning Dew’s special gold book was the answer.

Writer Victor James Owner and Illustrator H. J. Grimes have crafted a children’s picture book for the five and under set. The storyline is centered around Little Star and his desire to know why he is here. Everyone he finds has a job, Mr. Breeze supplies cooling wind, Morning Dew paints flowers. Little Star wants to know what his job is. Whimsical illustrations fit the tale perfectly.

Picture books and cuddles are made for each other. Books filled with sing-song rhymes that parents can read to their children have a special appeal to the preschool set. "Why Am I?!" presents fanciful Little Star, who seeks answers for why he is here. The child-like illustrations provided by illustrator Grimes are fittingly portrayed.

That we all have a purpose is a difficult concept for young children to grasp. Little Star has an abundance of companions from the environment working to help him discover how important he is. On the pages of "Why Am I?!" author Victor James Owner has produced a tale that offers chance for parents and teachers to strengthen the understanding that we are all unique and are an significant part of the society in which we live.

"Why Am I?!" is a book I will take to my fourth grade…once a week we read to ‘the little kids’ in our four year old program. School will begin on August 17, I may update the review once my resident critics have opportunity to render their opinion.

This book is a good choice for the home pleasure reading shelf, the school library, classroom and public library.

Enjoyed the read, happy to recommend.
